Alstroemeria!

Tricolor

Third Harmonic

Casa Blanca

Although we grow hundreds of different perrenial species, our specialty here at Garden Glories is altroemerias. Often called Peruvian Lillys, these plants are named after the Swede Clas Alströmer, who collected their seeds on his1753 trip to South America.

Most alstroemeria reproduce through seed pods that form atop spent flower stalks. Our alstroemeria produce sterile seeds, so there is no risk of them popping up in the far corner of the garden. These perrenials grow from rhizomes or 'tubers'. These horizontal underground stems help to spread a given plant to the size of a 4' radius, and make for convenient division.

Our alstroemeria also have sturdier stems than most, making for excellent cut flowers, and stalks up to 3' tall. When a flower is spent, simply grab hold of the stem and yank it from its network of tubers. This cleanly removes the stalk, and stimulates new growth. This is the same method one should use for harvesting alstroemeria as cut flowers. They last for upwards of two weeks when provided fresh water in the home.
